Bob Biswas: Actor Abhishek Bachchan In A New Avatar

Abhishek Bachchan will be taking on a new persona in his upcoming crime thriller, ‘Bob Biswas‘. The film is a spin-off of the iconic character of the same name. Bob Biswas made its first appearance in Sujoy Ghosh’s 2012 film Kahaani. For the Bob Biswas movie, Sujoy’s daughter Diya Annapurna Ghosh brought back the notorious villain on a centre stage. She directed the movie, with Sujoy writing the movie script. The character was originally played by the Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee. However, Bachchan will be replacing Saswata for the role. Bob Biswas is all set to premiere on the OTT on December 3, 2021. By getting a premium ZEE5 subscription you can watch Bob Biswas on the OTT platform.

Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Bound Script Production, the film stars Chitrangada Singh as the leading lady. It also features actors Barun Chanda and Paran Banerjee among others. Bob Biswas trailer got released recently, which shows the backdrop of a love story, and the dual life led by the contract killer Bob. The narrative portrays Bob Biswas who came out of a prolonged coma, tries to remember any details from his past. From the trailer, we learn about his past and how he came to be a hired hitman.

Abhishek also had to put on some weight for his role. He will be seen in a new avatar with chubby cheeks, a potbelly, square-framed glasses and a sling bag across his shoulder. The actor found it fun to gain weight as he gets to eat all the Bengali sweets. However, maintaining the weight was a challenge for him throughout the pandemic lockdown. In an interview with an online portal, Abhishek spilt the beans over gaining extra weight. He said, “I mean to put on the weight shooting in Kolkata in winter when you can have Gud Sandesh and all the wonderful sweet food that Kolkata has, but mentally I got stuck because we had to shut down our shoot halfway through because of the lockdown and we were about 80 per cent complete. And, we had another 10-15 days of work left. Throughout the lockdown, I had to maintain that weight. That was tough.”

The Manmarziyaan star also revealed that he tried putting on prosthetics as advised by the makers of the film but later dropped the idea. He said, “I weighed between 100-105 kilos during the shoot. And if you see Bob’s face, the face changes when it is round and his cheeks fill up. When you do prosthetics on the cheeks, it looks like a prosthetic. So, the stomach moves differently. When you have that weight and you are physically carrying that weight your entire performance changes because your body language changes your weight, your movement, your walk, your run, everything changes.”

In the movie trailer, Abhishek looks fantastic in his new look and his dialogue delivery is on point. Bob Biswas’ movie has a dark theme and, towards the end, Abhishek says Bob’s famous Kahaani dialogue, “Namoshkar…Bob Biswas…” The two-minute-long trailer is impressive and intriguing and garnered praise from the audience. The film shooting resumed on November 23 and the team wrapped things up on December 9 after filming for 43 days in Kolkata.
